| The 1995 adoption of the Beijing Declaration was a watershed moment for women’s rights globally. Since that time, key areas of gender equality for women and girls have seen marked improvements in many countries across the world. Nevertheless, profound inequalities persist. Drawing on recent data from the Women, Peace and Security Index, Klugman examines how far gender equality has advanced since the Beijing Declaration, and how far we still have to go to realise gender equality for women and girls around the world. Klugman examines the ways in which law continues to fail to address the multiple, intersecting forms of discrimination experienced by women, and addresses the question: what role does the law have in addressing the persistent gender inequalities which continue to affect women? | |
