This essay discusses Amy Levy’s vision of cosmopolitanism. It focuses on her trip to Dresden in 1881–82 and argues that the crux of her trip was the juxtaposition of Dresden as a liberating cosmopolitan space with her disturbing experience of the city in the context of antisemitism which, in the political discourse of the period, was framed within an anti-cosmopolitan, nationalist ideology.
