| Increasingly, pregnancy and birth are becoming events for which the parents-to-be have to gather a lot of information: They have to acquire a wide expertise about birth locations and birth options, make decisions about medical treatment and prepare themselves for the birth. According to that, pregnancy and birth are framed as an individual project. But this paper, based on ethnographic observation in information and educational events, shows that it is mostly the pregnant woman herself, and not her partner, who is addressed as the ‘entrepreneurial self’ responsible for the project management. Adopting a praxeological perspective, this paper asks in what ways pregnant women are addressed by the institutions, which subject-positions the institutions offer them and which forms of responsibility go along with this. | |
