| This essay analyzed one of Brigitte Kronauer's early stories, which magically draw readers into a fragmented, ambiguous reality and then challenge them to question their everyday experience. Their highly sophisticated structures, their "furor of precision", and simple, yet blindingly clear language illustrate the quthor's redefinition of literary reality. In "Ein Tag, der zuletzt doch nicht im Sande verlief" we accompany an incresingly anxious narrator in her effort to perceive the vertiginous world and herself. When the last episode ends with her "complete satisfaction", we are nevertheless required to create a full picture out of seemingly unrelated pieces - the odyssey of female maturation | |
