Beschreibung:
The portrayal of the utopian dimension in Wolf's literary texts has been an important means not only to survive an unlivable life but to evoke impulses for life, especially since 1976. This is not as much a conceptual portrayal as one of the utopian dimension of narrated characters and situations which are conceived as totalities and address our heads, hearts, and senses. Images of a life to be wished for increasingly refer not to institutions and state structures but - as is shown in selected scenes from "Kein Ort. Nirgends" and "Kassandra" - above all to the quality of human relationships, the "prescience" of a human, productive communality. Such "utopian moments" which stimulate longing are most characteristic in women. Their ability to experience them is deduced historically, i.e. from the position of women in the patriarchal society and their corresponding needs. Beginning with "Störfall", utopia in the sense of making humanity happy by forced means is bandoned; the concept of "hope" is complemented by the concept "responsibility". Proceeding from the assumption that utopia as a theory is worn out but that reality keeps on reproducing new needs for utopia, Wolf from now on connects the human impulse with everyday life and autonomous individuals.
